. . .underneath the shell of salt I've been driving recently. She looks purdy. Although, the metamorphesis is bittersweet, as I discovered the rust on my car is more advanced that previously thought.

These cars get it bad. Looks like you've still got a good amount of time left with this one though. My girlfriend's has some serious rocker panel/fender rust. Fourteen years in Michigan have not been kind to it : (

The American Ford Focus (MK1) always looks so sad... Strange how so little can do so much..

Why do you say it looks sad?

Look how the line of the top edge of the grille carries on across the headlights to form a downturned mouth!

I just think the US Focus (MK1) looks like it's crying, but the Euro one looks like it's smiling. I guess it's the "dimples" (turn signals) that makes me think that. No hard feelings though, it's a great car.

I see it now! Although I always saw the lower grille as the mouth.

I certainly enjoy it. But I agree, the Euro one looks loads better.

Any length of time in Michigan is not kind on cars, but you're right. The Focii tend to have it bad. I have rocker panel, front door (driver and passenger) and rear bumper bar rust. So far.

It's odd just how many parts were changed to make an American Focus - lights front and rear, grille, bumper, even the door mirrors.
